Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
On Friday night, a van driver suffered severe burns in a fire that occurred in Howrah, West Bengal.
According to local residents, the driver, identified as Pradeep Singh, attempted to commit suicide by setting fire to his van rickshaw on the road due to family discord.
Singh had allegedly quarreled with his wife on Friday night while under the influence of alcohol. Following the altercation, he went outside and poured kerosene on his van rickshaw before setting it on fire. His wife claims to have removed all the mobile phones from Singh prior to the incident, indicating that he may have been in a highly agitated state.
However, Singh's wife denies any involvement in the fire and has instead accused a youth from the area of starting the blaze. The police are currently investigating both Singh's alleged suicide attempt and his wife's accusations.
Singh sustained severe burns covering 90% of his body and was admitted to Howrah Hospital for treatment. His condition is currently unknown.
